Tolerance is Painful, Acceptance is Graceful
Birla Public School (BPS) organised the second edition of the TEDxBirlaPublicSchool on 28th September, 2018. The event was planned and executed by students led by the lead organiser Saadiya Rafiq, co-organiser Rutaj Dash and curator Varad Angadi.
TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is a non-profit organisation devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. TEDx is a local, self and independently organised event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience.
A number of motivational speakers such as Nawal Akram, Philip Young, Aditya Maheshwaram and Chandrashekar Angadi participated in the event and reached out to the young minds of the community through their innovative words and inspiring performance.
Bollywood pianist Bobby provided an entertaining musical commencement through his live performance. The theme for the second edition of the event was ‘Acceptance is Graceful, Tolerance is Painful’, highlighting the idea of peace and harmony.
The speakers addressed a gathering of invited guests, intellectuals, teachers and students. The event started with two recorded videos of highly motivational ideas. The co-founder of Future Foreign Policy, the first international affairs think tank, Young revealed rejuvenating ideas in economics, urging the world to open its doors to innovation leading to new heights of financial and economic resplendence. Maheswaram presented a succinct talk on the urgency to revive the human spirit and revitalise kindness, understanding and philanthropy.
The founder of the organisation – Muscular Dystrophy Qatar, Akram, conveyed a message “to believe in yourself and in all that you are.” She uncovered a few innovative pragmatic principles that herald a revolutionised manner of philosophy in all lives.
The witty and humorous public speaker Angadi, an engineer by profession and performer by passion, set the stage for discursive thought on original and unique principles of living.
Lukose K Chacko, chairman, BPS offered felicitations and gave away mementoes to the TEDxBirlaPublicSchool speakers. The speakers were honoured by Gope Shahani, Dr Mohan Thomas and Thankam Thomas, all directors of the school.
The school management and the school administration, led by the principal A P Sharma, senior vice-principal Shirley Rappai and vice-principal George Edison provided support for the smooth conduct of the programme. The students were also ably guided by a special team of teachers. The programme was webcast through YouTube. Gulf Times was the media partner of the event.
